Mark Boughton Announces Candidacy for Governor of Connecticut

Mayor of Danbury Launches Bid for GOP Nomination in Bethel

(Bethel, CT) Surrounded by family, friends, and supporters, Mark Boughton announced this evening that he is running for governor of Connecticut. The announcement was made in Bethel at the Stony Hill Inn.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, I am proud and honored to announce this evening that I will seek the Republican nomination for the Office of Governor of the State of Connecticut,” Boughton said. “I filed a regular committee to pursue this office. I did not file an exploratory committee. There is nothing to explore. I am in this race – to win this race.”

Boughton indicated that there are “three Rs” that he would achieve as governor:

1.) Revitalizing economic development strategy, which would include encouraging businesses to operate in Connecticut;

2.) Redesigning state government, which would include reducing bureaucracy and increasing transparency; and

3.) Rethinking what state government should be, which would include adjusting the relationships that currently exist between state and local municipalities.

“Connecticut’s future is worthy of our planning – we have so many assets and our state is full of so much promise,” added Boughton. “By revitalizing, redesigning, and rethinking our state government, we can create a government that our taxpayers can afford and government that works for all of us.”

Boughton concluded by saying, “This election is not about me or my ambitions. It’s about you. The residents of this great state – you are the key to success and you possess the power to change Connecticut. You are the ones that make this such a wonderful place to call home.”

Boughton, 45, was first elected as the mayor of Danbury in 2001. Prior to being elected as mayor, Boughton served in the State House of Representatives from 1999 to 2001. He and his wife, Phyllis, have been married for 13 years. The two met at a polling place.
